Polka Dot & Spot Pocket Squares

Whilst the printed dot has existed for thousands of years and echoes patterns of the natural world, the polka dot is a product of the Industrial Revolution and the new machinery capable of producing detailed & multicoloured patterns. From the 1840s, the popularity of the polka dot became entwined with the spread of the Central European dance craze, the polka. The folk costumes with dot patterns worn by Bohemian dancers are thought to be responsible for the association and subsequent coining of the polka dot name.

This simple design has been used across all kinds of items and the polka dot pocket square is an icon of men’s style. The polka dot lends an air of playfulness to men's pocket squares, no doubt thanks to the dance association.
